The Luck of the Pittsburgher

Life is about the experiences that you have, not what you have.

My son and I love to have adventures together. A good friend of mine has told me that my son and I take more field trips in a week than his parents would take him on in a year.

It is true that I do attend different types of events frequently, and my son and I spend a lot of time at the zoo, museums, festivals, etc. But I have said that I would rather spend my money experiencing life than having material possessions.

Jordan and I are creating memories together, and one day, I hope that we can both say that, together, we had a fulfilling life.

There is much to do, see and learn in this short time we are on Earth. I don’t want to watch life move by me and miss the train.

Nothing makes me happier than sitting in a movie theater, walking through a museum or running from ride to ride at Kennywood with my son’s hand in mine and a smile on his face as he soaks in his surroundings.

Last night, we took a tour of PNC Park. We created new memories as we touched the Roberto Clemente sign that the players touch for luck as they walk from the locker room to the dugout. Then, we sat where Neil Walker, Garrett Jones, Andrew McCutchen and Alex Presley sit every night.

As we continued the tour and entered the media box, we gazed out over the field, taking in the sight of our city’s skyline across the river. I missed the one thing that completed the moment. Jordan pointed to the sky, and said, “Mama, look!”

There it was: a rainbow draped across the city sky. It was perfect.

I may not remember the facts and anecdotes that the tour guide told me a week from now, a year from now. I may not remember how many goals the Penguins scored when Jordan and I watched them play the Sabres this past February (OK, three, haha). I may forget key moments in a movie that we saw together. But I will always remember the smile on my son’s face no matter what our adventure.

These pictures were too precious and gorgeous to waste. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I will treasure the experience.
