Hockey Kicks Cancer!

Local sports bloggers come together to kick cancer!

Many of us have been touched by cancer in some way—a friend, a family member, a neighbor ... yourself. It is a disease that affects a great deal of people. Every day, researchers work tirelessly to find a cure for this deadly illness.

What can you do to help? Donate.

I run a personal blog—High Heels & Hockey—and I, along with other members of the Pittsburgh sports blogging community, are teaming up to kick cancer! We are holding a kickball tournament at South Hills Dek Hockey just off of Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough on Oct. 6, 2012.

The month of October is celebrated by the NHL as Hockey Fights Cancer Month. Hockey Fights Cancer benefits the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). We are working directly with a coordinator from our local chapter of LLS here in Pittsburgh to raise money to help cancer research.

So, what do we need from you? Just sign up, come out and play kickball! We are dividing into teams of 10 for a tournament and are accepting registration for both teams and spectators. Registration is $20 per person and will cover your team shirt and a food ticket. The event is being catered by Jefferson Hills' The Interchange Lounge, so be prepared to eat some delicious hamburgers, hot sausage, corn on the cob, and more!

If your business would like to sponsor a team or a booth at the event, please contact me at heelsandhockey@gmail.com. We are accepting monitary donations to aid in the cost of the event (shirts, food, et al.), as well as gift baskets to give away in raffles.

Additionally, if you would like to have your own team of friends and family members, we are more than happy to accomodate. This morning, we had an entire team register in support of a friend who is battling leukemia. Lewis' Kickbawlers are ready to go!

Thank you, and we hope to see you on the field!
