West, Barca Key Highlanders' Rout of Plum, 38-6

Junior linebacker Donnie West was everywhere for Baldwin High School on Friday night in Baldwin's 38-6 rout at WPIAL AAAA Southeastern Conference foe Plum High School.

West made a game-high 10 tackles, including a game-high eight solo stops that included four sacks totaling losses of 16 yards. If that weren't enough, West also recovered two Plum (0-2, 0-2 Southeastern) fumbles, including one that he forced on a sack.

On the other side of the ball, senior running back Nick Barca was the star for Baldwin (1-1, 1-1 Southeastern), rushing for 218 yards on 23 carries, including an 83-yard, third-quarter touchdown that put the game away.

The Highlanders led just 14-6 at halftime but scored four second-half TDs to turn the game into a laugher.

"We took an important step forward this week," Baldwin Head Coach Peter Wagner Jr. said. "It was a total team effort, and our kids played with emotion.

"There are many aspects of the game that we need to continue to sure up, but overall, we progressed as a team and need to continue to build in preparation for a formidable opponent next week."

Baldwin returns home to play Southeastern opponent Penn Hills High School on Friday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

"We always stress to our players to be proud of the work they put in as well as our team's accomplishments," Wagner said, "but not be satisfied."
