Baldwin High School sophomore Matt Conway captures a Western Pennsylvania boxing title at the cadet level, while Baldwin alum Scott Bradley '08 falls in an open-class state-title bout.

Perhaps Baldwin-Whitehall was just being greedy.

Conway, who will now compete for a state Golden Gloves title at the Royal Place Restaurant on Route 88 on Saturday, May 7, earned a Western Pa. title in that tournament when he out-dueled Caleb Parrish of the West Allegheny Fighting Academy for a judges' decision at the very same location this past Friday.

Conway and Parrish were competing in the 125-pound cadet-class section of this year's Golden Gloves tournament, which features three two-minute rounds.

Conway trains at the South Park Boxing Club under Baldwin Township resident Bob "Muscles" Healy.

Baldwin High School alumnus Scott Bradley '08 also competed this weekend, but unfortunately, had a different result.

Bradley, who won the weekend before, lost a state-title bout this past Saturday at the Sheraton Hotel in Station Square.

Bradley had to win three times in Western Pa. just to reach the state finals and face his toughest challenge in the Philadelphia area's Jesse Hart. Hart is now a four-time open-class state Golden Gloves champion after Bradley's corner retired him during the second round while Hart was asserting himself.

Some authorities have graded Hart as the No. 2-ranked fighter in the United States for his weight and class. He is the son of former professional boxer and major middleweight contender Eugene "Cyclone" Hart.

Bradley once trained under Healy at the South Park club but now represents the Carrick Community Boxing Academy, where he fights for his father, also named Scott Bradley. The elder Bradley lives in , while the younger Bradley lives in .
