Former Baldwin Player Denny Urban Will Open Season in AHL

The defenseman spent time in the Maple Leafs' NHL camp this preseason.

Former player Denny Urban spent time in the Toronto Maple Leafs' NHL preseason camp , but the Leafs recently cut the one-time Highlander and Robert Morris University defenseman and sent him to their American Hockey League affiliate.

And while Urban will go down one level from the NHL to the AHL to play this coming 2011-12 season, he won't have to leave town. The Leafs' top farm club—the Marlies—also play in Toronto.

An in-camp demotion to the AHL is not devastating news for Urban, who was still earlier this calendar year.

After finishing his career at RMU, the offensively minded defenseman signed with the Reading Royals—an East Coast Hockey League affiliate of the Leafs and the Boston Bruins. He finished the regular season with the Royals and even saw time in the ECHL postseason.
