No idea why this Baldwin can't compete. Same size district as Bethel Park who continually competes every season.
loyalbaldwinfan September 22, 2012 at 11:55 AM
From reading the above article, I'm sure there is not one player on that team that would purposely call a different play. There must have been a miscommunication between players and coaches. Every team is on #28 like stink on S#i%. So shot gun or not it probably would not have worked. Sometimes I think they should just give the QB a wrist band and let them call their own plays.

We are paying big money for our Dean of Sports (Football), yet he is the worse coach around. Maybe we need to get a new football coach and leave the Dean go back to what he was hired for STUDENTS.
Common Sense September 22, 2012 at 02:09 PM
CC, the head coach isn't the Dean of Students. Game was actually better than score indicated. The swing at halftime hurt the momentum for sure. Running a toss into the short side of field with a 3 wr over there wasn't the best call in my opinion, but I guess it was a mistake. Seems like #2 had more tackles than 5. Lebo kept Dorian in check and I think BW had opportunities but couldn't prevent the big play or make the big play when needed.
cc September 22, 2012 at 09:09 PM
Are head coach might not be the Dean of Sports but he is on the coaching squad for the football team. You don't have to explain the game to me as I was there and seen it all. Our team depends to much on Dorian and we have more than 1 player on the team, we need to start using them.

Armchair quarterbacks.
Shondra September 22, 2012 at 09:27 PM
to quote a great football movie, "Attitude reflects leadership"
loyalbaldwinfan September 22, 2012 at 10:03 PM
that's right, the attitude of the players reflects the leadership of the coaching staff.
loyalbaldwinfan September 23, 2012 at 10:30 PM
Armchair quarterbacks? The posts above and below are things that are obvious to anyone with half a brain....
NE12Ukid September 24, 2012 at 04:02 AM
Do you know what an armchair quarterback is?
loyalbaldwinfan September 24, 2012 at 12:54 PM
arm·chair quar·ter·back 1.viewer who criticizes conduct of games: somebody who is certain that he or she can make better calls than the coaches or players while watching a competitive sport on television

I was NOT at this game. BUT... If Luke Smorey got as many chances as Doug has had, I believe there would be a significant amount of positive impact for the whole team, especially Baldwins offense. He is a play maker, a gamer, an athlete. Not to take anything away from Doug, though. Doug is a leader, and although leaders are much needed for quarterbacking, I think Luke's overall talents when compared to Doug's are better. Stats from this game in particular do not help my argument in any way. Recordings are: Doug 8-11, Luke 3-7. Rehashing to the Penn Hills game, though, shows Doug. Maybe a bad game, yes, but the interceptions were purely terrible throws. The cornerbacks didn't have to do much at all. Final statement, give Luke a shot to start, and follow through with an ENTIRE game like Doug has been able to do. With this, a win is more feasible. If I get my wish, which is unlikely, and I'm completely wrong then I'll admit it. But until then I have yet to see the same opportunities given to Doug as to Luke. This in my opinion, is ludicrous, when thinking of the diverse amount of talents Luke has to offer. In no way shape or form is this post biased. I truly am not affiliated with Luke, or with Doug. -Anonymous

We have many good players on the team that don't get to play. But it is just like Community Sports, coaches have their favorites and that is who they play instead of giving others a chance. A few players doesn't make the team, it is all the players on the team.
Jon Wain September 25, 2012 at 01:12 AM
cc is right .just look at their unifofms at the end of the game.there's like 11 dirty ones. speaking only of games played on grass.
loyalbaldwinfan September 25, 2012 at 01:20 AM
Anonymous, I agree with you. I saw alot of positive things from Smorey. He seems like a gutsy player. Playing it safe isn't getting them anywhere. As far as leadership, I watched the Penn Hills game on TV and some of the things he did showed great leadership. So with that being said, I hope you get your wish as well, but agree that it is highly unlikely.

Let's be careful when talking about kids on here please. Remember their ages and that they're likely to read this.
ClasslessFans September 25, 2012 at 01:14 PM
I find it troubling when adults (or those legally considered so) take it upon themselves to criticize boys. This is a forum to display opinions, express excitement or displeasure, NOT to single out individual KIDS. Furthermore, talking about the positive or negative impacts individual students have on a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM is absolutely preposterous. Anonymous, it is perfectly fine to take up issue with the leadership of a football program, or even personnel issues, but do everyone a favor and leave the kids names out of this.
loyalbaldwinfan September 25, 2012 at 01:58 PM
I will apologize for my post. I was simply agreeing about a positive thing that was said about a player. Sorry readers. GO HIGHLANDERS
Concerned September 25, 2012 at 09:12 PM
This coaching staff has used these players like this from day one. Im not just talking about the qb, Im talking about about every position. People should be used to it by now. At least the qb isnt throwing 4 interceptions in the first half and fumbling 3 punt returns then being sent back out in the 2nd half. I guess that shows there is some progress in this coaching staff. I just dont know if we will get to 4 wins so the coach can keep saying he's improving every year. just lucky the team wasnt winless five years ago.
Shondra September 25, 2012 at 11:10 PM
I couldn't agree with you (classlessFans) more. The comparison between any of these KIDS is immature and not necessary. The only thing ludicrous is an "adult" hiding behind the name Anonymous while bashing high school athletes. I am lucky enough to know both of these athletes, and know how very talented each one of them are. While you might not agree with the way this season is headed, or the play calling, or the personnel issues, lets keep the kids names out of it, they are ALL working hard and probably just as frustrated.
Thomas September 27, 2012 at 02:58 PM
Had 4 wins last season, so they wouldn't be improving.
Concerned September 27, 2012 at 09:08 PM
3 or 4 whats the difference?
cc September 28, 2012 at 02:05 AM
I just wish the coaching staff would play more of the players, I have been walking at the school when the football team practices and have stopped and watch and it is a shame that their isn't more of a rotation of players in the game, we have some really good players sitting on the bench that should be in the game. If they were given a chance to play we might be winning more than 1 or 2 games this season.

To anyone out there who still is paying any attention to this page. I'm simply responding again. I understand fully that they are kids. I also completely see the potential in my past comments to hurt Doug's feelings. I know. Doug's an athlete. A serious and tremendously hard working kid. I've witnessed it. A leader. Someone with a good heart, and would never intentionally hurt ANYONE. With that being stated, I remain to possess the same opinion as before. Mistakes have been made. By Doug and Luke. Plenty more of these mistakes go to Doug though. Maybe that is because of the lack of chances luke has received. Maybe not.. BUT. A fair chance must be given here. If Luke didnt work hard In the off season and in practices, he would NEVER have gotten even a chance to play. He did work hard. And Wehner did give him a very small chance or some small chances. Luke didnt play phenomenal and made a few mistakes, and therefore was instantly taken out again. Doug goes back in, makes WAY more mistakes, and Wehner continues to give him the green light. Mr. Wehner, why? Now addressing the concerned fans of the page, the ones very upset with my previous comment: They are kids, I know. But also soon to be men. Lets call them young men. Young men need to be able to take some criticism. They need to be able to hear some bad things about them. And I'm absolutely sure that DOUG (of all people) is quite capable of seeing my last post. Cont...

It may hurt his feelings, but he'll be made a stronger, better person. So to all of the people concerned about Doug's ego and confidence, don't worry about it. Please. He will be okay. Sometimes this discussion is needed.
loyalbaldwinfan January 07, 2013 at 09:05 PM
Anonymous, I totally agree with what you have said. The unfortunate thing here is that Wehner will NEVER give Luke that chance. I know the family and I know that he ( Luke ) has lost his interest in being QB. He does what is asked of him for his team. Another great athlete flushed down the tubes because of bad coaching. You asked Mr. Whener Why? I think alot of people would like an answer.
