BHS Divers Compete at WPIAL Championships

Adam Grosse and Jackie Micklege place 17th and 23rd, respectively, in the boys and girls competitions.

 qualified two athletes for the 2011 WPIAL AAA diving championships, which were held at  on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Baldwin's sophomore Adam Grosse narrowly missed qualifying – by three-tenths of a point – for the final round of the boys championship. Grosse had to settle with completing an eight-dives set that garnered 189.65 points and landed him in 17th place out of 26 athletes.

A North Allegheny High School diver won the AAA boys competition with a full 11-dives slate that totaled a WPIAL-record 607.30 points.

Fellow Highlanders sophomore Jackie Micklege was forced out of the girls competition after completing five dives. Micklege placed 23rd out of 31 divers with a score of 130.70 points. The girls winner from Pine-Richland compiled 421.65 points after all 11 rounds.

Micklege is the lone member of Baldwin's girls swimming & diving team to qualify for either the WPIAL swimming or diving championships this season, but the Highlanders will send a number of boys to the WPIAL AAA swimming championships, to be held at the University of Pittsburgh from March 3-4.

Neither Baldwin diver qualified for the PIAA diving championships.
