Baldwin Softball, Boys Lacrosse Both Fall in WPIAL Semifinals

Those teams' seasons are now complete.

's varsity softball and boys lacrosse teams saw their quests for 2011 WPIAL titles end on Wednesday, as both squads lost tournament semifinals games.

Baldwin High's softball team fell, 11-1, to  in a 4 p.m. WPIAL AAAA game at neutral-site Woodland Hills High School.

Shortly later, Baldwin's boys lacrosse squad lost to Greensburg Central Catholic High School, 15-10, in a 6 p.m. WPIAL Division II contest at neutral-site North Allegheny High School.

"These guys left it all out on the field tonight," said Shawn Leydig, a former Highlander in his first year as head coach of the boys lacrosse program. "Even though we came up a little short, the guys have every reason to keep their heads held high.

"No regrets this season."

Added Sam Hovanec, another former Baldwin athlete in her first year as head softball coach, "The 2011 season was filled with memories. I'm proud of the girls and the coaching staff."
