Baldwin Finishes Season in 20th Place at WPIAL AAA Boys Swimming & Diving Championships

The Highlanders place 10th in the 200-yard medley relay.

, bolstered by a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finished in 20th place at the 2011 WPIAL AAA swimming & diving championships, which were held mostly at the University of Pittsburgh from March 3-4 (swimming events).

Baldwin garnered 24 team points during the meet. scored 295.5 points to win the 2011 WPIAL crown.

Freshman Brendan Antenucci, seniors Andy Moog and Kyle McClure, and junior Shane Landy (in that order) made up Baldwin's 200 medley relay team, which raced to a time of 1 minute, 42.81 seconds to beat 12 other teams and pick up 14 team points for the Highlanders.

Landy (leadoff leg) and McClure (third leg) also made up half of the Highlanders' 200 freestyle relay team. Freshman Zachary Ward (second leg) and sophomore Nick Roth (anchor leg) were the other half. The foursome completed 200 yards in 1:32.68 to place 14th out of 26 teams and score six points.

The combination of McClure, Landy, junior Mark Tripson and Roth (in that order) was the other Highlanders meet entry to tally team points. The foursome placed 15th out of 22 teams in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:26.19 to register four points.

The rest of Baldwin's entries failed to score team points, though Moog did place 18th out of 32 athletes in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.21.

Roth placed 20th out of 27 swimmers and 26th out of 27 in the 200 free and 100 butterfly, respectively, with times of 1:50.89 and 58.23 seconds.

McClure added a 21st-place finish in the 100 fly in 57.33 seconds, and Antenucci placed 25th out of 32 competitors in the 100 backstroke in 59.04 seconds.

The WPIAL's AAA diving championships, held separately at on Feb. 26, are still part of the overall WPIAL swimming & diving championships. Baldwin sent two athletes – one boy and one girl – to the diving event, but neither scored team points. Click to read about their performances.

No Baldwin girls qualified for the WPIAL or PIAA swimming & diving championships this season, and despite some team-scoring efforts at the WPIAL swimming meet, neither did any Baldwin boy.
