Voter Turnout in Baldwin-Whitehall as 'Expected'

Some poll workers call turnout 'awful.' Others call it 'encouraging' as Election Day winds down.

Baldwin-Whitehall Patch Editor  has visited all 15 of the  on Tuesday. Much like his trip through the first half of the area's polls that day——voter turnout has not been ideal.

Most poll workers have said that the Nov. 8 turnout has been better than , but the turnout for some districts has been described by some of those same workers as "awful." One district in particular that has a polling stop at —a district described as mostly residents from the  area—counted 51 voters out of a possible 860 as of 4:15 p.m.

While workers at other districts' polling stops said that their numbers will increase after 5 p.m. when most people return home from their place of work, workers at the Prospect Park residents' stop were not anticipating a large increase in voters.

"It's like this every election," a worker at that stop said.

On the other hand, some area polling locations were doing well, with numbers approaching 30-percent turnout even prior to 5 p.m.

Five people will earn  on Tuesday, and one other person will earn a .

Unlike May 17, low voter turnout cannot be blamed on inclement weather. Nov. 8 has been sunny and often warm.

  • , 41 Macek Drive: "304 people out of 1,786" as of 3:41 p.m.
  • , 825 Streets Run Road: "134 out of 797" as of 3:55 p.m.
  • Baldwin High School (Auditorium Hallway), 4653 Clairton Blvd.: "412 out of 2,515" as of 4:15 p.m.
  •  Park Community House, 374 Knoedler Road: "319 out of 2,454" as of 4:34 p.m.
  • , 4900 Curry Road: "297 out of 1,450" as of 4:50 p.m.
  • , 5151 McAnulty Road: "586 out of 2,614" as of 5:05 p.m.
  • , 100 Borough Park Drive: "391 out of 1,247" as of 6:14 p.m.

A look at the numbers from the first half of the day:

  • , 5001 Baptist Road: "86 voters" as of 9:55 a.m.

  • Lafferty Center, 330 Joseph St.: "89 in one district, 57 in the other" as of 10:58 a.m.

  • , 3344 Churchview Ave.: "208 out of 1,800" as of 1:05 p.m.
  • , 3171 Churchview Ave.: "177 out of 1,345" as of 1:15 p.m.

Second half:

  • "Better than this morning."
  • "We'll get more people after work."
  • "It usually stays the same after work."
  • "I wish people knew how important this is."
  • "It's encouraging."
  • "It's awful."

First half:

  • "It's been crappy."
  • "It's been better than expected."
  • "It's been worse than expected."
  • "We have 660 voters listed, but about 60 of them are probably dead."
  • "It should get better after work lets out. It better."
  • "The weather is perfect."
