TAKE SURVEY: CMU Students Look at Route 51 Bus Stops

Responses needed to hear concerns and preferences.

Students from Carnegie Mellon University's Master of Urban Design program are partnering with representatives of Economic Development South (EDS) this spring to improve bus stops on Route 51 and enhance the accessibility of neighborhoods along that corridor, according to an EDS news release.

To get the project under way, the students have designed a short online survey to hear concerns and preferences from area residents and commuters.

The survey (available here) is anonymous and takes about five minutes.

EDS is a nonprofit community development corporation serving Brentwood, Whitehall and Baldwin boroughs and the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Carrick and Overbrook. EDS is committed to facilitating investment and reinvestment, creating jobs, and enhancing the competitiveness of those areas.

EDS encourages you to take the survey today to help inform the process.

I am so pleased that EDS again is being proactive to address the needs of our communities. As I have mentioned at recent Whitehall Council meetings, I am very concerned about the abandonment by PAT of the Whitehall bus routes. I too have made contact with research departments in hopes they can compile information that our communities can use in order to plan some type of alternative transportation to meet the transportation of our Whitehall residents and residents in surrounding communiites. Is this the proper space to complain about all of the buses on Provost? Probably not, but following those PAT buses going 10mph up Provost is a royal pain. And then they proceed to stop at every side-street in Whitehall! Give me a break! (Okay, I'm done ranting now, thank you.)

First off.....the port authority is probably the worst run business in the entire country and should be eliminated entirely and bring someone in that can run it profitably without the tax payers financing it. How bout those overpaid lazy drivers not pulling over to pickup and let passengers off the bus for the entire length of Brownsville Rd. They lead a parade of cars a mile long that have to stop at every stop along the way instead of pulling over to do thier business and let the cars get by so maybe the drivers can get to thier own jobs. They seem to get great pleasure from creating a long line of traffic. I have never seen such arrogance and ignorance from anyone in my life and often wonder why the police don't give them citations for blocking traffic and not pulling over to the curb. It is IMPOSSIBLE to file a complaint,,,,,you can't do it over the phone....there arent even any phone numbers to call.

Linda you are so lucky not to have the port authority where you live. You are so much better off without them. I wish we could get rid of them in Carrick.....all they do is beg for tax payer money and government grants......raise prices(they are riduculous) and cut service to a bare minimum. The drivers are overweight lazy and so overpaid that it isn't even funny. I have been considering moving to Whitehall just to get away from those nasty pollution spreading buses. They are such an eyesore.
