PTO Elects New Officers for 2011-12 as Part of its Final Meeting This School Year

Elections were just one part of discussions on Monday night.

Elections

The  and 's joint Parent-Teacher Organization held its final meeting of the 2010-11 school year, which meant at least one thing: the election of new officers for 2011-12.

In addition to Diane Kindling, Kelly Bischoff and Kim Stitt being selected as the McAnnulty-Whitehall PTO's newest auditors, the PTO also elected Bischoff (corresponding secretary), Kim Maiden (recording secretary), Colleen Mondello (treasurer), Cristy Stipetic (vice president-Whitehall), Chris Rostek (vice president-McAnnulty) and Chrissy Deiley (president) as the organization's officers.

Mondello's selection is a re-election, as she had already been serving as the PTO's treasurer. Stipetic, Rostek and Deiley are switching roles, having previously served as the corresponding secretary, recording secretary and vice president-McAnnulty, respectively.

As expected, Laurencine Romack, the 2010-11 PTO president, and Jeannie Barone, this school year's vice president-Whitehall, will not be PTO officers next school year.

Each election is for a one-year term. Individuals can serve in the same capacity for two straight years before moving on (unless no one steps forward to challenge him or her).

Kindling, Stitt, Maiden, Mondello, Stipetic, Rostek, Deiley and Bischoff (twice) were each elected unanimously.

May 5 Whitehall Elementary Arts & Science Festival

The PTO's officers promoted a May 5 arts and science festival to meeting attendants. The festival will feature work by Whitehall Elementary students and will be held at the school from 6:30 to 8:30 that night.

June 3 Whitehall Elementary Pool Party

Mary Jo Barbano, the PTO's June 3 Whitehall Elementary Pool Party chair, motioned for the organization to allow surplus funds from a Drug Abuse Resistance Education program to be used for any possible over-budget spending by the pool-party committee. Barbano's motion passed unanimously.

The party will be held at the .

Giant Eagle's Apples for the Students Program

Stipetic explained Giant Eagle's Apples for the Students program to meeting attendants.

In addition to the Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Labels for Education programs, Giant Eagle's program allows Giant Eagle Advantage Card users to register their cards with a particular school to easily rack up rewards points for that school.

The PTO is encouraging Giant Eagle Advantage Card users to register their cards with schools. Doing so does not affect a card's ability to reward individual users as well.

Prints Charming vs. Lifetouch

Many meeting attendants expressed their dissatisfaction with the B-W School District's use of Prints Charming Designs, Inc., as a school photographer. Some attendants suggested using the company Lifetouch instead.

Romack, a current B-W school board member, advised those with concerns to take their opinions to school-board meetings. The board will hold an agenda meeting at 4900 Curry Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236–the site of both Whitehall Elementary and the school-district office–on Wednesday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m.

9/11

Toward the end of the meeting, PTO members discussed possible ways for the B-W school district to acknowledge the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.

The general opinion of the organization was that its new officers should consider ways over the summer to organize a related event next school year.
