Poll: Too Early to Start Back-to-School Shopping?

There are plenty of nearby places to buy supplies.

Local students won't start regular classes again until late August or early September, but back-to-school advertisements have been gracing TV sets and storefronts since early July.

What does your little scholar need to get back into the learning groove this year? Are you already thinking about new clothes, notebooks, pencils, crayons and glue? On the hunt for a new backpack? Stocking up on Lunchables?

Or are you still thinking about the summer? Is school just too far away?

Take our poll!

And if you're looking for places to buy gear in Baldwin-Whitehall, check out our directory. Of course, there are several great back-to-school shopping options just outside of our borders, as well.

For example, there is a in Pleasant Hills Borough, and and can be both be found inside the Century III Mall along Route 51 in West Mifflin Borough.

To early to do school shopping. Teens don't want to go clothes shopping till a week before school starts for school clothes, that way more fall clothes are out. I know my child has it already planned out with her friends the day they are going clothes shopping. Don't know one kid that calls off the first day of school because they don't have school clothes. The older ones even go to freshman orientation because they want to see their friends that they didn't get to see over the summer.

Deanna can see your point, I just have the one in high school left and they plan when they shop with friends.

IKWYM, there are always a few of those each year, missing the important first day information because they think they need new clothes to come to school. What were they wearing the day before? Were they nekkid?

I can see waiting till school starts for SOME of the class supplies unless a list is provided ahead of time. No sense buying the wrong notebooks, etc. It's the "must have new school clothes" that is the problem. As if they'd wear fall clothes on those hot first days of school anyway. Bad peer pressure and too much emphasis on what they wear.

I wish they would give a list for the supplies that they need before school. You think you got everything for them the a teacher will want 2 notebooks-spiral and composition then 2 different binders. These teachers think parents have a ton of money to spend on notebooks, binders and I do feel bad for the parents that have a few children in school as it can run in the hundreds for school supplies.

Solution is to not buy binders, notebooks, etc until list is provided or class begins. Just some paper and a pencil will get any child through the first day. If yu can't shop after school that day call the teacher and just ask how many days yu have til the required supplies are necessary. The items are on sale at least a couple weeks after the first day of classes. Didn't you say yours don't shop early anyway?

i never buy fall clothes till the end of sept, my kids wear their shorts for a month or so anyways! i do but school supplies, new shoes, back packs, some new shorts and t shirts they are on clarence anyway so i can get some great deals! plus with growing kids buying fall clothes may not be a great idea because the may not fit them by fall!

Brutus clothes shopping is done the weekend before school starts. My daughter has her gift cards already for clothes shopping, she just needs to go. But I like to buy school supplies when they are on sale, when they start school the sales aren't around any more.

Margaret totally understand, raised 3 on my own being a widow and it can be very expensive especially when they outgrow their clothes.
