POLL: How Much Will You Spend on Back-to-School Supplies?

Baldwin-Whitehall parents might breathe a sigh of relief near the end of this month and the beginning of September when , but before that happens, there is work to do.
According to the National Retail Federation, the average person with children in kindergarten through 12th grade will spend $689 on back-to-school supplies this year.
The biggest chunks of that expenditure are expected to be for clothing ($246 average) and electronics ($218).

In 2011, the total expected expenditure was a $604 average.
For parents of college-aged children, the average expected back-to-school cost is $907 per year.

All told, that makes for an expected $83.8 billion to be spent on back-to-school shopping this year, making it the second-biggest consumer spending period behind the winter holidays.
