New Principal at Baldwin High School

And J.E. Harrison Middle School gets a new assistant principal.

The Baldwin-Whitehall School Board approved the hiring on Wednesday night of a new principal for Baldwin High School.

Walt Graves comes to Baldwin High after serving as the principal of South Western High School in York County, PA, for the past 10 years. A move to the Baldwin-Whitehall School District brings Graves and his family closer to home, as he is a native of West Mifflin Borough.

Graves replaces interim Principal John L. Wolicki, who was filling in for former Principal Kevin O'Toole. O'Toole had been granted a leave of absence from the school district in January before eventually resigning in June.

Also hired on Wednesday was a new assistant principal for J.E. Harrison Middle School—Jill Fleming-Salopek.

Fleming-Salopek was an assistant principal at Steel Valley High School this past school year. Before that, she spent five years as an instructional coach and 10 years as a teacher in that same Steel Valley School District.

The assistant principal's position opened in Baldwin-Whitehall after the school board eliminated the district's dean of students positions in June.

The board hired Wolicki and Fleming-Salopek with identical 7-0 votes. Board members Ray Rosing and Diana Kazour were absent.
