McKain to Leave Baldwin-Whitehall for County Exec Office

When he cleans off his desk in a few weeks after his last day of employment with the , William D. McKain will have to leave room in the proverbial cardboard box for the heaps of praise that he received on Wednesday night.

The B-W School Board accepted the resignation of McKain, the district's assistant to the superintendent for finance and operations, at a meeting on Wednesday by a 9-0 vote—"unfortunately," as board President John B. Schmotzer joked—so that McKain can become Allegheny County's manager.

McKain said that his hiring will be finalized at a future county council meeting. He will report to county Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

McKain became Baldwin-Whitehall's director of administrative services in November 2009, and his title was changed in the spring of 2010.

Board member Kevin J. Fischer said that McKain came to the district at a time of economic uncertainty but that he "brought it back to respectability."

Fischer added that McKain being asked to work for the county "says something not only about him, but it says something about this district" in that it was able to attain his services for a time.

"Mr. McKain has so much integrity that it oozes out of his body," Schmotzer said. "Baldwin will miss him."

Board member Nancy Sciulli DiNardo said that McKain's eventual departure will be a sad day for Baldwin-Whitehall but "a great day for Allegheny County."

McKain said that he is sad to leave Baldwin-Whitehall but that the county job is a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity for him and his family.

He said that Baldwin-Whitehall is being left in good shape, especially with Dr. Randal A. Lutz set to become on July 1.

"These are exciting times for Baldwin-Whitehall," McKain said. "The future's bright."

Also on Wednesday night, the B-W School Board voted unanimously to appoint William McNamee, the district's business manager, as its treasurer for the 2012-13 fiscal year. McKain has held that title since May 13, 2010.
