BHS Student Brooks Wins at Shakespeare Contest

Baldwin High School student Maggie Brooks was a winner in Pittsburgh Public Theater's 19th Annual Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest.

A Baldwin High School student is a winner in Pittsburgh Public Theater’s 19th Annual Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest.

Maggie Brooks, pictured above, is one of two winners in the category Upper Division Monologue, for her performance of a monologue spoken by the character The Jailor’s Daughter from The Two Noble Kinsmen.

DeVaughn Robinson of Woodland Hills High School also won in this category for a performance of a monologue from the play Hamlet.

More than 1,000 students entered the contest and performed at the O'Reilly Theater between March 14 and 22. Finalists, including Brooks, performed on March 25, and winners were announced Tuesday.

The Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest is programmed through Pittsburgh Public Theater's education department, led by Rob Zellers. The theater's youth education and outreach programs are supported by BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, as well as the Grable Foundation, PPG Industries Foundation, United States Steel Corporation, and Richard E. Rauh.
