Baldwinaires VIDEO and Remaining Notes from Dec. 12 B-W School Board Meeting

Wednesday night was an eventful one in Whitehall.

Baldwinaires Performance (and Upcoming Shows)

Baldwinaires, a singing group made up of Baldwin High School students, entertained attendees at Wednesday night's Baldwin-Whitehall School Board meeting with three different holiday songs.

On Dec. 16, the Baldwinaires will join the River City Brass Band for a performance at Baldwin High at 2 p.m. Tickets for that event start at $20 each for seniors and $22 each for other adults. Call 412-434-7222 to buy tickets and/or for more information.

And on Dec. 20, a holiday chorus concert, which will include the Baldwinaires, will be performed at the high school at 7 p.m. Tickets for that event cost $5 each. Call 412-885-7500 for more information.

Student Awards

The B-W School Board recognized a number of district students on Wednesday for their recent accomplishments.

- Honored for being selected to a Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Honors Band, ranking them as two of the best at playing their instruments among students in five southwestern Pennsylvania counties, were Baldwin High's Dan DeSimone and Marissa Eynon.

- Honored for designing the best holiday greeting cards in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District were Elizabeth Langer (first grade), Kaitlyn Oldaker (fourth grade), Emma Kraus (fifth grade), Alana Eckels (seventh grade) and Joey Esposito (10th grade).

Cherpak Is New District Treasurer

The B-W School Board voted, 8-1, on Wednesday to appoint Mark R. Cherpak as its newest treasurer, starting on Jan. 1.

Cherpak joined the B-W School District on Dec. 3. He will eventually replace district Business Manager and Treasurer William McNamee, who will retire on Dec. 21.

Cherpak will finish McNamee's term as treasurer, which runs through June 30, 2013.

Board member Martin Michael Schmotzer cast the lone "no" vote.

Revised Rates for Policy 707

Although a final revised copy of the policy has not yet been made available to the public, the B-W School Board approved on Wednesday—by a 9-0 vote—revised rates for the use of B-W School District facilities under the district's Policy 707.
