Are you a good speaker? That's all that it could take to win a trip to Indianapolis and $18,000 for college. OK, you have to be a high-schooler from Baldwin Borough, too.
Any high-schooler under 20 years of age can enter Post 935's preliminary but necessary stage of this national contest, but you don't have to attend Baldwin High School to participate. However, you must live in Baldwin Borough, and you must enter the contest by Jan. 5. (An application form is available here.)
Speaking subjects must be on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to the U.S. government.
Speeches are eight-to-10 minutes long, but three-to-five-minute speeches on an assigned topic also are part of the overall contest.
While $18,000 goes to the national winner, there are other prizes to be won at the levels preceding the national stage.
