Sound Off: Would You Welcome Corporate Sponsorships in Baldwin Boro?

The Baldwin Council passed that idea around on Tuesday night.

Baldwin Borough's council members volleyed around an idea during Tuesday night's special budget meeting regarding an opportunity to increase borough revenue:

What if some borough facilities were sponsored?

Councilman Larry Brown was the first to broach the subject on Tuesday, wondering aloud if any local companies or even regional or national organizations would be interested in giving the borough money to have their name attached to a Baldwin facility.

"How do we raise money?" Brown asked, simply. "Can we sell naming rights, like, to the pool or the parks?"

Borough Manager John Barrett said that, if it were the will of the council, borough administration would seek bids for naming rights to any number of borough properties, including the Baldwin Borough Swimming Pool, which has been struggling to become self-sufficient.

The council did not take any official action regarding the conversation, but we're asking you what you think. Would you like to see borough facilities named after companies in order to help to keep local taxes down but local services up? Or is "Pepsi Swimming Pool" and "Duquesne Light Park" a bit too much for you?
