Preview of Senatorial Republican Primary Debate (April 10)

As part of a state Senate race that impacts residents and others who reside largely in parts of Allegheny County, Republican challengers for April 24's 37th Senatorial District primary will discuss hot topics on April 10 at a 7 p.m. debate at .

The winner of April's primary will be an unchallenged nominee on November's general election ballot, as there are no candidates from opposing parties, including no Democrats, competing for that district's state Senate seat.

The Republican candidates are Sue Ann Means, a Republican state committeewoman from Bethel Park; Mark Mustio, a state 44th House District representative from Moon Township; and D. Raja, a former Mt. Lebanon commissioner and .

The current senator of the 37th state Senatorial District is Republican John Pippy, who is not seeking reelection.

"It is unlikely an Independent or a 'write-in' candidate could mount a successful campaign," said Laura Zajdel, co-chair of the Peters Township Republicans, in a press release, "which means the (state) Senatorial race for District 37 will be decided in the April 24 primary election.

"The public will have the opportunity to meet the candidates at the conclusion of the debate, ask questions and obtain yard signs and campaign supplies."

All three candidates will participate in April 10's structured debate, which will be hosted by the Peters Republicans and moderated by Peters Councilman David Ball.

The debate will be held in the auditorium, specifically, of Peters Middle School.

Besides Whitehall, the 37th Senatorial District includes includes part of Washington County, namely, all of Peters Township; and part of Allegheny County, including the townships of Aleppo, Collier, Findlay, Kilbuck, Leet, Moon, North Fayette, Ohio, South Fayette, South Park and Upper St. Clair; the boroughs of Avalon, Bell Acres, Ben Avon, Ben Avon Heights, Bridgeville, Edgeworth, Emsworth, Glen Osborne, Glenfield, Haysville, Jefferson Hills, Leetsdale, Oakdale, Pleasant Hills, Sewickley, Sewickley Heights and Sewickley Hills; and Bethel Park and Mt. Lebanon.
