John Palmiere Running Unopposed for Allegheny County Council's District 6 Seat

Steven Hvozdovich, another democrat, has withdrawn from the ballot. Primaries will be held on May 17.

, a democrat from Dewalt Drive in  who is serving out the remainder of Joan Cleary's term on the Allegheny County District 6 council seat, will be the only name on the District 6 county council ballot come time for May 17 primary elections.

Only one other person – Steven Hvozdovich of Leona Drive in – had qualified to run against Palmiere for the full, four-year term, but Hvozdovich removed his name on March 21, two days before the deadline to do so.

Hvozdovich's qualification was not challenged, and he withdrew from the ballot on his own volition, according to the Allegheny County Division of Elections.

Not only will Palmiere not be officially challenged for a Democratic nomination to the four-year District 6 seat, but no one filed to run for a Republican nomination to that seat either.

In Palmiere's case and in other cases where the number of nominees per party is equal to or less than the number of seats open, those candidates have a good chance of securing nominations since only write-in candidates (with enough votes) could capture one of their party's nominations ahead of them.

No names will be on the ballot for the short-term District 6 council seat that Palmiere has held since Jan. 18, this year. That seat will be vacated by Palmiere on November 8 – the actual election day.

A person being voted to fill that short-term seat would, according to the division of elections, only be serving from Nov. 8, 2011, to Jan. 2, 2012.
