Faustino Dunckhorst Is Whitehall Borough's "Citizen of the Year"

Dunckhorst and other Whitehall residents will be honored at Community Day this Saturday.

Mayor James F. Nowalk and the Council of the Borough of Whitehall have selected Faustino Dunckhorst as Whitehall's "Citizen of the Year," a recognition that has been bestowed annually during Whitehall Community Day celebrations for the past 17 years.

The borough's is this Saturday.

Dunckhorst is the president of the Friends of the Whitehall Public Library. The group is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Dunckhorst's service to the in various capacities over many years earned him a Jefferson Award for public service in 2010. Jefferson Awards is a national program that honors volunteers.

"Faustino Dunckhorst Day" will be proclaimed by Nowalk and the Whitehall Council at a ceremony to be held at following the borough's annual on Saturday, shortly after 10 a.m.

Past recipients of this honor are Tammy Donnelly Slusser, Carole Zajac, Cara Kendra Bernosky, Dr. John Murray Jr., , Chief J. William Schmitt, Charles McKinney, Dr. Edmund M. Ricci, Dr. John Aupperle, Lee Boyd, Karen Trueblood, Morgan K. O'Brien, George Benson, Sister Margaret Carney, , the and Dr. Mary Margaret Kerr.

Also being awarded at 2:15 p.m. on Community Day is a Community Service Award to a citizen who has made a significant contribution to the betterment of Whitehall Borough. Awardee Lois S. Misko has been a volunteer in Whitehall for many years. Most recently, she has been a local leader for Project Linus, an organization that provides security through blankets for seriously ill and traumatized children.

Nowalk and the borough council will also hand out Good Neighbor Awards on Community Day at around 2:15. This year's awardees are Ruth Barone, Jessica Bova, Jim Fox, the Gilbert family, Marlene Hofbauer, Catherine Mavrinac and Charles Staab.
