Baldwin Streetlights Eliminations Finally Official

View the final list of eliminations here.

The Baldwin Borough Council drove the final nail in the coffin on Tuesday night for 366 of the borough's 1,350 streetlights.

By a unanimous vote, those lights will be taken down in the near future to save Baldwin an estimated $66,000 annually in energy costs. The borough will not see significant savings until another year, however, as Duquesne Light will charge around $58,000 to remove the lights.

A joint recommendation by Baldwin Mayor Alexander R. Bennett Jr. and  Sgt. Kim Reising was to take away 376 borough lights, but after hearing concerns from residents during two special public meetings (, ) on the subject—as well as from emails and phone calls—Bennett and Reising pared their elimination list down by 10 lights.

Nevertheless, the borough is losing over 27 percent of its streetlights.

Take all the lights you feel are necessary. It will save money and cause less pollution. However if OUR Second Amendment Rights are finally abolished I will miss the lights.. Is there a back up plan? Don't forget to VOTE!

They took 2 street lights in a row on my st. which is blossom . Now the whole block is dark. But they are still going to raise our taxes. They want us to leave our lights on so our electric bill goes up . Maybe us senior citzens can't afford that. Or and emerg. and they can't find your house . Why not take every other light out.

Richard Fitterer - How can 2 lights cause your entire block to be dark? Also, where did you here that the Borough is going to raise your taxes? The budget for 2012 is in effect now and there was no increase in borough tax. The 2013 budget is not in discussion until later in the year. Maybe you are thinking about the school district which has announced a more than 1 mill increase in taxes.

He said he lived on Blossom. No way that Blossom only has 2 freaking streetlights. He is simply exaggerating or it is just an emotional response not based on fact. Like most things about this entire subject.

I looked at the list of streetlights to be reomoved that was part of this article. There were NOT 2 adjacent streetlights listed on Blossom that were designated for removal. I'll bet Mr. F is either exagerrating or has some kind of political agenda. I think he should contact the local borough people and have them verify what he is claiming. Or, he can just continue to complain and write blogs. That is more fun.

I was walking 2 nights ago on Blossom and looked down to send my neighbor a message and walked smack into a parked truck. (Completely clumsy on my part) Tonight I realized the whole block was completely dark! Never realized what a difference a few lights can make. Wonder if it is the same section you speak of!

bd-if it is the same section I walk Richard's whole block is dark. I realized tonight how dark it was in comparison to the blocks with 2 lights.

Taking 11 street lights off Blossom did make the street dark as the 11 street lights on Churchview did nothing at all. Streets like Blossom shouldn't of loss that many lights.

I wish they would come and take the street light outside my house

Enjoy the stars.

Looking at the list of lights that were taken out it seems that South Baldwin lost the majority of them, which doesn't surprise me one bit.
NB resident June 03, 2012 at 11:56 PM
Well they should come over here in NB and take some if these
