Fire Strikes Again on Garvins Falls Road

Second fire in three years on house lot that was in foreclosure.

UPDATE: Fire crews from across the region converged on 173 Garvins Falls Road earlier this evening to extinguish a fire on a home lot where a fire destroyed a home a little more than three years ago.

Fire teams from Bow, Hooksett, Loudon, and other towns, along with Concord fire teams, lined Garvins Falls Road trucking water from fire hydrants located at different ends of the sparsely populated road off Manchester Street. The teams then ran fire lines up a long dirt driveway to what appeared to be a pile of rubble and brush that was smoldering at about 9 p.m.

Area residents said when the fire destroyed the home a number of years ago, fire teams performed the same task of running tanker trucks up and down the road, bringing water to the lines at the end of the long driveway. The time it took to get water to the fire hindered firefighters’ ability to contain the fire and the home was completely destroyed.

Concord fire officials were unable to determine the cause of the fire because of the damage done to the home, according to press reports.

According to legal documents online, a public auction was planned for Feb. 8, in order to pay back a mortgage taken out on the property on Jan. 26, 2009, a couple of weeks before the first fire.

Deputy Fire Chief Sean Toomey had no specific comment as to how the current fire started.

The first report about this fire is below

Firefighters are at the scene of a working fire on Garvins Falls Road in Concord.

Initial reports came across at 8:30 p.m. of a fire at 173 Garvins Falls Road, according to emergency radio broadcasts. Heavy flames were reportedly showing from a building.

The fire is down a dirt road at the end of Garvins Falls Road. Firefighters said the fire started in a foreclosed house that first went up in flames a couple years ago. It was recently sold, and was scheduled to be rebuilt.

One report said that the fire started in a 30-foot by 30-foot garage and has now spread to a nearby pile of debris.

Concord Patch will have more on this story as it develops.
