Whitehall Man Arrested Twice in 3 Hours

police officers arrested Adnan Omeragic, 51, at around 3:34 p.m. on Saturday and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol after Omeragic crashed his van into a utility pole on East Barlind Drive, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said.

Then, after being booked at the and released to the custody of his daughter, police arrested Omeragic again after he was found walking in the middle of a Whitehall stretch of Provost Road at around 6:10 p.m.

This time, Omeragic, who lives at 4512 W. Barlind Dr. in Whitehall, was charged with public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction of highways or other public passages. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Police received several calls about the van accident, which occurred in the 4400 block of East Barlind, Danko said.

Omeragic's white van had heavily damaged the utility pole, nearly knocking it over. Duquesne Light has since repaired it.

Callers said that Omeragic appeared to be intoxicated as he walked away from the crash. When officers arrived, they found him sitting on a curb near the accident and smelling of alcohol, Danko said.

Officers took him to the Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test—results pending—before his daughter picked him up at the police station and took him home.

However, police were called to Provost's intersection with Margaret Street a short time later to arrest him again, Danko said, after Omeragic was causing a traffic hazard by arguing with a motorist in the middle of the road.
