Attempted Burglary at Central Blood Bank Donor Center

Employees at the Central Blood Bank donor center in the along Baptist Road called the on Friday, Oct. 28, to report an attempted burglary.

The employees reported arriving at the building at approximately 8:55 a.m. to find that someone had tried to steal a flat-screen TV from there. Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said that the would-be thief was somehow scared away as he or she was attempting to put the TV into a plastic bag. The bag was left at the scene.

Police officers reported no signs of forced entry to the donor center, and the incident is under investigation.

Jewelry and Cash Theft from Villaview Drive Residence

A resident of Villaview Drive called the police at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, to report that jewelry and three envelopes containing cash were missing from her residence.

The resident said that the cash was in excess of $350, and she estimated the jewelry to be worth around $2,000.

Police officers reported no signs of forced entry to her residence, but the victim said that she has had some workers inside of her house for the past week or so.

Whitehall police are compiling a list of suspects and are conducting an investigation.

Vandalism on Baptist Road

A resident in the 5300 block of Baptist Road called the Whitehall police at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, to report that her vehicle was vandalized while it was parked in her driveway overnight.

The resident said that a stick of butter and at least two eggs were on her car and that her car had fresh key scratches on its driver-side door and rear fender.

The resident said that she is not feuding with anybody. Whitehall police are investigating the incident.

Arrest on Villaview Drive

Whitehall police, while investigating another incident on Villaview on Monday at approximately 3 p.m., arrested James Albert Maver, 48, of 2501 Transport St. in Pittsburgh's Overbrook neighborhood. Maver was wanted by the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office for numerous traffic violations and two counts of drug possession.

Whitehall police turned Maver over to the county sheriff's office.

Missing Bicycles 

Deputy Chief Danko wished to inform area residents that the Whitehall Police Department is holding eight bicycles in various sizes from 20 to 26 inches. He said that the police have been holding some of those bicycles since June 2011 and that, if anyone can provide a legitimate claim to any of them, then they should contact the Whitehall police as soon as possible at 412-884-1100.

If the bikes are not claimed by the end of November, they will be donated to a local charity.
