Police notes from July 4-15.

Underage DUI, Open Alcohol on Route 51

A officer stopped a motorist at around 11:46 p.m. on July 4 for erratic driving on Baldwin's portion of Route 51 between Streets Run Road and the Route 51 cloverleaf.

The driver—Jacob Petrovich, 20, of Peterson Drive in Jefferson Hills Borough—told the officer that he was trying to avoid potholes, according to a police report.

The officer smelled alcohol coming from Petrovich and put him through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed, before arresting him and charging him with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

An open bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade was found in Petrovich's vehicle, as well. The owner of the vehicle—Rachel Marie Arms, 25, of Lanmore Avenue in Brentwood Borough—was riding as a passenger. Arms admitted that the open alcoholic beverage container belonged to her, and she has been charged with that offense.

The officer took Petrovich to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test, but Petrovich refused to provide a blood sample. He was then taken home and released to the custody of his father.

In addition to the DUI charge, Petrovich is being charged with underage drinking.
