This was Baldwin Township's first appointed policeman. He was appointed in April 1928 out of a field of 10 applicants. His salary was $5.50 per day, and he would provide his own uniform, gas and oil.

The township would provide the machine and supply all necessary repairs and tires. The officer was on-call at any time; although, his prescribed working day was set at 10 hours.

He would watch for automobiles going through the stop sign at the corner. He would then stop them, make them back up to the stop sign, make a proper stop, and let them proceed legally.

What was the name of this officer—the township's first police chief?
