South Side, Brentwood Men Arrested on DUI Charges in Baldwin

A police officer who recognized a motorist on Becks Run Road at around 3:09 a.m. on Saturday as possibly not having a valid driver's license turned out to be right.

The officer, while following the vehicle and checking on the status of the driver—Kevin John Kubiczki Jr., 18, of Arlington Avenue in Pittsburgh's South Side Slopes neighborhood—learned that Kubiczki was driving with a suspended license.

Kubiczki turned from Becks Run onto Madeline Street in the Carrick neighborhood and headed toward Brownsville Road at an unusually slow rate of speed, the officer reported, before he was pulled over near Carrick's Madeline-Brownsville intersection.

The officer approached Kubiczki, who told the officer that he was driving tired, according to a police report. The officer returned to his police vehicle and wrote a citation for driving with a suspended license, but when he returned to Kubiczki's car, Kubiczki had gotten out.

At that point, the officer smelled alcohol.

The officer put Kubiczki through field-sobriety tests, which he failed, before arresting him and charging him with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol (underage). Kubiczki also admitted to recently drinking alcohol, the officer reported.

The officer then took him to the , where he twice failed breath-analyzer tests before eventually being released to the custody of his mother.

DUI Arrest on Willett

A Baldwin police officer stopped a motorist for driving erratically at the intersection of East Francis Avenue and Willett Road in Brentwood Borough at around 2 a.m. on Sunday. The driver—Michael Charles Simcoe, 33, of Willett Road in Brentwood—was stopped near Brentwood's Willett-Korb Way intersection.

Despite not having an odor of alcohol about him, Simcoe showed signs of intoxication upon interacting with the officer, according to a police report.

Simcoe failed field-sobriety tests before being arrested and charged with two counts of suspicion of DUI—one for alcohol and one for other drugs.

He was then taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test (results pending) before being brought home and released.
