Six DUI Charges: Baldwin Borough Police Briefs (May 20-30)

Baldwin officers report two separate DUIs at essentially the same time.

DUI, Part I

On May 20 at approximately 11:02 p.m., a officer was conducting a traffic stop on Glass Run Road because a vehicle had traveled through a closed section of Glass Run. While the officer was conducting the stop, another vehicle drove through the closed section.

The officer reported that the driver of the second vehicle ignored visual and verbal commands to stop his vehicle and instead kept driving farther on Glass Run. The officer released the first vehicle and followed the second one, eventually pulling it over on Glass Run near Walton Road.

DUI, Part III

On May 24 at approximately 1:04 a.m., a Baldwin Borough police officer stopped a vehicle on Churchview near Glass Run for erratic driving.

The officer reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside of the vehicle in question and put the driver—Vincent James Chalmers, 36, of 252 Revo Road in Baldwin—through field-sobriety tests before arresting Thomas for suspicion of DUI.

At the Baldwin police station, police reported that Chalmers began threatening the safety of one particular officer and that officer’s family, using profanity and attempting to fight the officer. Police reported that the threats against the officer and his family continued for quite a while before Chalmers failed a breath-analyzer test.

After the breath-analyzer test, Chalmers continued to threaten the officer and that officer’s family. Police eventually transported Chalmers to Allegheny County Jail. In addition to the DUI charge, he is also being charged with making terroristic threats and with careless driving.

DUI, Part IV

Through interaction with the driver of the vehicle in question—Martin Carey Long, 21, of 223 Curry Hollow Road in West Mifflin Borough—the officer determined Long to be drunk-driving and arrested him under that suspicion.

Police reported that a bag containing what is believed to be marijuana was found in Long’s possession.

Long was taken to Jefferson Regional for a blood test. Results of that test are pending.

In addition the DUI charge, police are also charging Long with possession of a controlled substance, with driving with a suspended license, with careless driving and with driving with an obstructed window.

DUI, Part VI

On May 29 at approximately 10:24 p.m., a Baldwin Borough police officer was dispatched to the 400 block of Elaine Drive for a one-vehicle accident.

When the officer arrived on the scene, he observed a woman sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle wrecked into a utility pole.

The officer reported that the driver—Janet Einloth, 52, of 5327 McAnulty Road in Baldwin—appeared to be drunk. Because of possible injuries from the accident, Einloth did not go through field-sobriety tests. Police reported that she did fail a breath-analyzer test, though.

Einloth was eventually transported to Jefferson Regional for a blood test. Results of that test are pending.

Police are charging Einloth with DUI and with failure to drive on the right side of the roadway.
