Man Issued Citation After Incident

police officers on Friday night, while searching Route 51 between Brownsville Road and Borough Park Drive for a report of a distressed man, said that they found the man in question drunk and lying behind the station in the 4400 block of Clairton Boulevard.

The officers received a call from a motorist passing through that area at around 10:49 p.m. who said that the man was lying along the side of Route 51.

The officers said that the man—Daniel Robert Kerekes, 48, of 1253 Megown Drive in South Park Township—was highly intoxicated when they found him and issued him a citation for public drunkenness.

WIC Checks (and Other Items) Taken from Vehicle on Curry Road

A resident from the 4600 block of Curry Road came to at around 4:29 p.m. on Monday to report that her vehicle was illegally entered into on Thursday.

The woman said that she did not report the incident until Monday because she only became aware that day that she was missing $200 in WIC checks that she had left inside of her vehicle on Thursday. She said that she had left her vehicle unlocked.

WIC (Women, Infants and Children), a federally funded program, provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to 5 years of age who are found to be at nutritional risk.

The woman said that the checks were being kept in her purse, which was inside of the vehicle. The purse, a dark blue Coach bag with a black handle, was also taken. The woman valued that purse at around $200. Also inside of the purse, according to the woman, was a Sony digital touch-screen camera valued at around $300 and a pair of sterling silver earrings valued at around $130.

Whitehall police are investigating, including checking area pawn shops for those items.

Windows Smashed on Girard Road

Whitehall police received a call from a resident in the 1100 block of Girard Road at around 5:41 p.m. on Saturday complaining that both passenger's-side windows of her vehicle had been broken.

The resident said that she did not know when the vandalism would have taken place. The vehicle had been parked in her driveway.

Police officers went to the scene and confirmed that two windows had been shattered but could not find any suspicious objects inside or outside of the woman's vehicle that could have been used to smash her windows.

A canvass of the surrounding area did not turn up any leads. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. The incident is under investigation.

Juvenile Found with Marijuana on Skyline

A resident from the 1600 block of Skyline called the Whitehall police at around 7:47 p.m. on Monday to report that a group of children in the laundry room of the 1680 Skyline apartment building were smoking marijuana.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found a 16-year-old girl in possession of a blunt (cigar) with marijuana inside of it.

The girl lived in a nearby apartment building on Parkline.

Of course she has WIC checks but a coach purse and nice digital camera. Maybe that needs to be investigated.

Totally agree, need to investigate! What is a woman on WIC doing with a $200 purse, a $300 camera, and expensive silver earrings? Somethings not right here! Can I get some WIC checks to feed my family?

Wow you both took the words out of my mouth. Entitlements are the downfall of our country. Quit with the handouts! We need to hold people more accountable for their actions.

Oh yes and don't forget she came to the police station on a Monday at 430.... That's funny, most people I know (including myself) are at work at that time. This piece of trash didn't realize her belongings were missing until Monday and this occurred on Thursday. Clearly she has nowhere to be during that span of time... Including obviously work.
Jean Smith February 15, 2012 at 10:47 am
You took the words out of my mouth also. I doubt if it was a real Coach purse, probably some cheap knockoff and a 30 dollar camera and a 12 pair of earrings that she is trying to get the most money from her renters/homeowners insurance company. Who in their right mind leaves an expensive purse like this and valuables in an unlocked car and expects the public to believe this bull.
I don't mind giving WIC to people that truly deserve to be on this, but from this article this person does not belong on WIC. What I want to know is why you would keep expensive things like this in a unlocked car, and was her wallet in the coach purse along with her welfare cards?

You all took the words right out of my mouth. Coach purse and WIC checks, and leaving your car unlocked. *shakes head* If your dumb enough to leave your car unlocked then you deserve to get your things stolen.
