Nearly On-Fire Truck Barrels into Colewood Park After Crash Near Baldwin Towers

police officers came to in response to a witness' report that a smoking, nearly on-fire truck had just driven into a parking lot there at around 5:39 p.m. on April 27.

After stopping in the parking lot, the driver of the truck—later identified as Kenneth Lee Lowmiller, 50, of Cochran Mill Road in Jefferson Hills Borough—ran on foot into a wooded area, according to the witness, before police arrived and started searching the woods for him.

Approximately 150 yards into the woods, the incident's police report reads, police officers caught up to Lowmiller lying down behind a tree stump. Lowmiller surrendered there and was questioned by the officers as to the cause of his truck's damage.

The officers report that Lowmiller admitted to being drunk when he crashed his truck into a utility pole near on Knoedler Road a short time before entering the park. He was then arrested and taken to the , where he twice failed breath-analyzer tests, according to the police report.

The pole near Baldwin Towers that Lowmiller said that he crashed into showed fresh damage to it, and pieces of Lowmiller's truck wear found lying nearby.

Because of its heavy front-end damage, the truck also ripped apart a plastic speed bump in the Colewood Park area. The bump will need to be repaired.

Police eventually released Lowmiller to the custody of a friend. He is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to report an accident.

Gasoline Theft on Knoedler Road

A man from the 300 block of Knoedler Road came into the Baldwin police sub-station in the at around 7 a.m. on April 30 to report that, sometime overnight, someone had siphoned gasoline from his car while it was parked near his residence.

The victim said that his car's fuel tank was half-full when he parked it at around 9 the night before. When he returned to his car the next morning, the tank was empty, and its cap was missing.

DUI/Hydrocodone Possession Charges Against Brentwood Residents

A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped a motorist near the Brownsville Road-Streets Run Road intersection in at around 1:59 a.m. on Friday for erratic driving on Brownsville after the driver left the  in south Baldwin.

The officer smelled alcohol as he approached the driver—Kristyn Leigh Dugan, 31, of Marylea Avenue in Brentwood Borough—whose vehicle contained an additional passenger. The officer put Dugan through field-sobriety tests, which she failed, before arresting her for suspicion of DUI.

Dugan was then taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test—results pending—before being transported to her residence.

The other passenger—Charles Daniel Shine, 32, of Greenlee Road in Brentwood—whom police say was shirtless and showing signs of intoxication, was searched, and police found on him two pills that were pinkish in color and labeled as "Watson 3203." The pills are believed to be hydrocodone.

Police took possession of the pills and are charging Shine with possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to Dugan's residence, as well.

DUI Arrest of Brentwood Man 

A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped a motorist near the Becks Run Road-Madeline Street intersection in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood at around 2:09 a.m. on April 29 for erratic driving on Becks Run in north Baldwin.

The officer smelled alcohol while interacting with the driver—Michael Joseph Buchleitner, 26, of Brentwood Avenue in Brentwood—and put Buchleitner through field-sobriety tests, which he failed.

The officer said that Buchleitner also admitted to recently drinking alcohol. Buchleitner was arrested for suspicion of DUI and taken to Jefferson Regional for a blood test. Results of that test are pending.

The officer also found an uncapped, partially filled bottle of beer on the floor of the rear passenger's side of Buchleitner's vehicle. 

He was eventually transported to his residence.
