More Burglaries Reported Near Baldwin-Whitehall

Three home burglaries were reported in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood this past week, and the victims were not only home during the break-ins; they were asleep.

The first occurred in the 700 block of Berkshire Avenue on Thursday between 4:45 and 6:45 a.m. The victim told police that someone forced open a side window of his home and entered his residence while he was sleeping. Money and jewelry were stolen.

Then, either late on Thursday or early on Friday, two similar burglaries were reported, both in the 1600 block of Greencrest Drive.

In both cases, a burglar forced open windows to enter the homes. Cigarettes, money and a checkbook were reported stolen from one home, and money was reported stolen from the other.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police are investigating the three break-ins.

Similar burglaries and attempted burglaries have also been reported recently in nearby Castle Shannon Borough, and the Castle Shannon Police Department is continuing to investigate those incidents.

The latest happened on Nilden Avenue, just over 's southern border, either late on Monday or early on Tuesday.

The would-be burglar, or burglars, climbed an outdoor table to gain access to an unlocked kitchen window, according to the Castle Shannon municipal website. It is then believed that the suspect, or suspects, was/were frightened off by dogs before entry could be made to the kitchen's home.

Three other burglaries were , including one near and two near Baldwin Township.
