Marijuana Alarm
Whitehall Borough police responded to a smoke alarm at 4348 Seton Dr. at around 6:39 p.m. on Jan. 15 only to find that the homeowner's marijuana smoke admittedly had caused the alarm, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said.
The home's alarm notifies local police when it is triggered.
When police arrived at 4348 Seton, they met the homeowner—William J. Korach, 33—at his doorway and detected an odor of marijuana coming from the house.
Korach said that the alarm was false, but upon further investigation, police located a small amount of marijuana and some drug paraphernalia that Korach said was his, Danko said.
The deputy chief said that Korach admitted to smoking marijuana and that that's what set off his alarm.
Police informed the Whitehall Fire Company that its firefighters did not need to come to the home.
Police are charging Korach with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pretty Much Everything
A woman visiting someone in the 4700 block of Doyle Road was victimized by a theft-from-vehicle incident sometime during Saturday evening or Sunday morning, Danko said.
Whitehall police were notified at around 2:25 p.m. on Sunday that someone had entered the woman's unlocked car while it was parked in that block and stole her car keys and a small bag that contained her driver's license, her Social Security card, a Vera Bradley wristlet, keys to a university living space that she resides at, her debit card, her credit card, her health insurance card and her student identification card.
"The moral of the story is lock your car," Danko said.
Copper Theft
Duquesne Light corporate security personnel contacted Whitehall police at around 4:26 p.m. on Sunday to report that someone had recently stolen some copper ground wires from several regulators and breakers at Duquesne Light's Elwyn Power Station on Earlsdale Road, Danko said.
The fence around the power station had been cut.
This is the second time that someone has entered that property to steal copper since December, Danko said.
Identity Theft
A resident from the 1000 block of Girard Road came to the Whitehall police station at around 9 a.m. on Thursday to report that someone had recently used his credit card number to make an unauthorized online purchase totaling over $300.
Dollar Bank, which issued the credit, will not charge the victim's account.
The incident is under investigation.
Disturbance on Skyline
Whitehall police responded to a disturbance in the parking lot of 1725 Skyline Dr. at around 1:08 a.m. on Sunday.
Upon investigating the incident, Danko said, police have charged Zachery L. Randolph, 25, of 1725 Skyline, Apt. 58, in the Whitehall Place Apartments complex of the Wallace (Prospect) Park area, with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
Danko described the incident as a "loud shouting match."
