Man Gets Probation for Child Sex Assault in Baldwin

Thomas Cottrill must also register as a sex offender.

Thomas Cottrill, 64, who was arrested by Baldwin Borough police at the Nancy Podrat Group Day Care Home in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill South neighborhood in February, has been sentenced to two years of probation for molesting a 7-to-8-year-old girl in 2004.

Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jill E. Rangos issued that sentence to Cottrill on Monday.

A jury found Cottrill guilty on Sept. 12 of one count each of endangering the welfare of children, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors and indecent exposure.

Baldwin police were involved because the charges stemmed from when Cottrill babysat the girl in 2004 while she lived with her family in Baldwin.

Cottrill, who was once employed by the Nancy Podrat day care center, did not meet the girl through his work there.

In addition to the probation sentence, Rangos also ordered Cottrill to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

And many rapist claim they are innocent yet they continue to rape when they are let out of jail. They have a sickness that attracts them to children. They found the two in Stubenville guilty of Rape while they kept on claiming their innocents. How many people got on the stand to lie for these two rapist and try to say they were innocent, trying to say that the girl who was passed out was in agreement with these monsters to have their way with her. Thomas Cottrill had a jury of his peers and he was found guilty. The DA wouldn't of taken him to court if they didn't have enough evidence from this girl to convict him.

Just like all the child molesters out there that still claim they are innocent even after they were proven guilty. These boys in Stubenville claimed they were innocent prior to the hearing and during the hearing and were found guilty. It sickens me how men who are rapist try to make them self so innocent. I just hope that this girl is getting treatment for what this monster did to her.

Yes she lied about the rape so her parents wouldn't find out where her sucker bites came from. A child who was touched by this monster was 5 or 6 at the time of the incident. Children suppress bad memories till they come out later and most often act out as they were made to feel ashamed of them self by the perpetrator.

The girl in Thomas' case drastically changed her story, even in the courtroom, more than once, regarding how old she was when this supposedly happened, and changed her story drastically about what even supposedly happened. You are an outsider who makes assumptions and places those assumptions onto every case without always knowing facts, who knows nothing about Thomas Cottrill or the mentally unstable accuser who did this to him. She was almost 16 when this lie came about, and as you can see from the girl who lied about rape to cover up for suckerbites, yes, some nasty teenagers DO lie about rape, as did the girl in Thomas' case. It doesn't matter how old she said she was (she drastically changed the story and the age more than once) - the fact is, she was a lying almost-16 year old when the story came about, and it has nothing to do with reality. She is hungry for her family's love and attention, since she lacked it through her childhood, and she is a trouble-maker as a way to get attention and sympathy. It is sad, for a girl to do this to someone, because she didn't get enough love and attention from her family through out her childhood.
