Man Charged on Route 51 with Not Having Ignition Interlock System
A prior driving under the influence conviction required the device, police said.
During a traffic stop on Route 51 near Streets Run Road at around 1:38 p.m. on Friday, a Whitehall Borough police officer discovered a man to be operating a vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock system, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said.
Due to a prior driving under the influence conviction, Richard G. Brooks Jr., 48, of Slate Street in Pittsburgh's New Homestead neighborhood, is not allowed to operate a motor vehicle without one of those devices, Danko said. As such, police are charging Brooks with that offense.
Brooks' vehicle also had a suspended registration, according to the deputy chief, which is another offense.
