'Friendly' Spat Turns Violent (and Other Whitehall Police News)

Stories from Aug. 7-13.

With Friends like These …

police officers went to check on the welfare of a resident at around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday only to discover that the resident was actually worried about the safety of her friend, who was not there.

Chief Donald R. Dolfi said that the resident told the officers that she and a friend had gotten into a verbal argument earlier that night before the friend left the apartment. The resident told officers that she was concerned about her friend's state of mind.

The officers obtained a description of the friend, searched the surrounding area and eventually found her. But upon talking with the friend, they learned that the argument had actually gotten physical, Dolfi said, and that the resident had assaulted the friend.

The resident—Chrislyn Peiripsh, 26, of 1587 Bevan Rd., Apt. 9—was then arrested and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Police are charging Peiripsh with simple assault and harassment.

'Poka' Music

Whitehall police have made a habit recently of reporting to 1690 Parkline Dr., Apt. 6, in the area for reports of loud and disturbing music.

Saturday, at around 1:22 a.m., was another of those times, Chief Dolfi said, and the apartment's resident—Edward Poka, 22—has again been charged with disorderly conduct.

Poka was cited for the and has been warned about it at other times, Dolfi said.

It Wasn't Me

A resident of the 4700 block of West Lawnview Drive notified Whitehall police at around 4:23 p.m. on Friday that he was a victim of identity theft, Dolfi said.

The resident said that his Dollar Bank MasterCard was rejected at two different locations on Thursday due to an exceeding of his credit limit, but he also said that he hadn't used the card recently.

Dollar Bank records showed that the card, however, had been used three times in August for purchases in Maryland, which the resident said were unauthorized transactions.

Whitehall police are working with Dollar Bank security personnel regarding the fraud and have advised the victim to contact major credit bureaus to put a fraud alert on his account.

Missing Bike

A resident of the apartment building at 1 Glen Elm Dr. notified Whitehall police at around 10:33 a.m. on Monday that his bicycle had gone missing from the storage area of his residence, Dolfi said.

The victim said that another tenant of the building last saw the bicycle on Aug. 5. The victim did not notice the bike missing until Aug. 6.

The bike in question, valued at $400, is a forest green Trek mountain version with a rear rack. There are stickers from the "TRM Bike Shop" on it.
