Former Rankin Police Chief Dies After Fight, Tasering

Darryl Briston got into a fight at The Meadows, was tasered and then went into cardiac arrest after being taken into custody.

Former Rankin police Chief Darryl Briston died Friday after suffering an apparent heart attack following an altercation with his estranged wife and her male companion.

KDKA-TV is reporting that a fight broke out Friday about 11:30 p.m. at The Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington County. According to KDKA, when Briston saw his estranged wife with another man at the Meadows’ casino, he punched the man in the face.

Went into cardiac arrest during transport to station or upon arrival waiting to be booked on charges? I thought standard protocol was a report and EKG had to be administered after a Taser was used on an individual before booking could begin?

The Patch should add Rankin and Braddock to its list. Another uninteresting topic.... "We cover anything and everything that is happening in Forest Hills, Regent Square, Edgewood and Swissvale in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area, including news, events and sports."

Was sorry to hear of Darryl Briston's passing. He helped me twice with property vandalism when he was on the Swissvale force. Though he later had problems, he was very professional in the dealings I had with him. Much too young to leave this world.
