But William Scherz avoids a jail sentence.

Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jill E. Rangos has sentenced former Baldwin-Whitehall School District bus driver William Scherz to probation and lifetime sex offender registration for his involvement in a January encounter with a 15-year-old boy in Elizabeth Township.

Scherz, 74, of Brentwood Borough, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of unlawful contact with a minor-sexual, criminal use of communication facility, indecent exposure, corruption of minors and indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age, according to a court document.

For those offenses, Scherz avoided a jail sentence but was sentenced to complete three years of probation and 18 months of an individualized program plan. He will also have to be part of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act for the rest of his life, according to the document.

Charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and statutory sexual assault were withdrawn.
