DUI Arrest on Glass Run Road

Suspect's windows were too dark, and his registration sticker was expired, police said.

A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped a vehicle on Glass Run Road near its Walton Road intersection at around 11:39 p.m. on Saturday for having darkly tinted windows and an expired registration sticker, according to a police report.

The officer reported smelling alcohol while talking with the vehicle's driver—Bryan Michael Dettlinger, 29, of Muldowney Avenue in Pittsburgh's Lincoln Place neighborhood. Dettlinger also admitted to recently drinking alcohol, according to the report.

The officer put Dettlinger through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed, before arresting him and taking him to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test (results pending).

He was then taken to the Baldwin police station and released to the custody of a relative.

Police are charging Dettlinger with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Don't for a minute think that ALL the police do is reported in the Patch articles.
NE12Ukid October 31, 2012 at 03:04 AM
Do you report this to your police dept?

I would agree that everything the police do is not reported in the Patch, and I think BPD is a class act organization, but these DUI arrest are out of control, I want to know there margin of error though no way everyone they arrest is actually DUI
PITT#983 October 31, 2012 at 07:31 AM
cc it is called police work. Dark tint and exp registration are both violations of vehicle code as is tail lights . You do not "just stop them to see if they are drunk" but when you go make contact and they have been drinking then police are responsible to investigate further (ie breath test, field sobriety). The police are then responsible for the safety of residence and other motorists therefore they make a DUI arrest. Look up stats of innocent ppl killed by drunk drivers. If police were making arrests for small nickel bags of dope and that is all you read then you would more than likely complain about that too. Do you think it is possible that drug arrests are being made and not all reported to the Patch? I don't think the Patch reports ever arrest made in Baldwin. Here is an idea, get your certification, test and go through the process and become a police officer. Then see what police work is about then make a post about ignoring motorists who are driving under the influence.

We got drug dealers, same ones on Brownsville Road night after night yet Baldwin does nothing at all. They are only worried about drunk drivers. It reeks up on Brownsville Road and Baldwin Cops drive right by them.

Do you report this to your police dept?
cc November 01, 2012 at 12:25 AM
ne12ukid it is all public record on what the police do who they ticketed, busted for dui or any other charges for the day. Only thing Baldwin police seem to do is bust people for DUI's. Whitehall and Baldwin Township on the other hand bust people for other things other then just look for drunk drivers.
cc November 01, 2012 at 12:30 AM
ml yes I did report it to the police and also filmed a drug deal on my cell phone for them but the one office said he had more important things to be doing after waiting up on Brownsville Road for them to show up. Guess they didn't have their quota of dui's for the month or he didn't get enough free coffee and donuts for the day.
cc November 01, 2012 at 12:36 AM
PITT#983, unlike you I want to see drug dealers off the streets. When they are dealing drugs to grade school, middle school and high school then there is a big problem in Baldwin. When Whitehall had a few drug bust posted in the Patch we had a few people that were upset because they were busting drug dealers. Seems that Whitehall and Baldwin Township seem to be able to bust people for more than dui's. Any arrest that an officer makes becomes public knowledge and everyone has a right to read those records.
LeonA November 01, 2012 at 12:55 AM
Often these drug situations are part of a bigger picture, and special task forces handle them (members from several local PDs). Until one does this job, it seems wrong to be so constantly critical of everything, everyone, everywhere on Patch.
PITT#983 November 01, 2012 at 03:41 AM
LeonA you are exactly right. There are tasks forces, narc units and plain clothes police that are much more effective than a uniform officer in a marked car. Drug activity rarely happens with this combination and if it did or the PD had reasonable suspicion that a crime was being or going to be committed I am sure the PD would not turn their backs and look for DUI's The "dealer" is not on the corner selling he has people for that. I am not saying there is not a problem but don't complain because the PD stops someone and DUI's them and possibly saving someone"s life. cc I never said "I did not want drug dealers off the street" so please re-read my post to you. However you did imply that Baldwin PD should look past people who are under the influence and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle therefore placing innocent people at risk. I will research and be able to tell you more accurately but I will go on a limb and say that Baldwin PD makes drug arrests. cc you seem bitter and negative about everything all the time maybe you need a hug? Oh and by the way, the donuts joke is old!
cc November 01, 2012 at 01:27 PM
Yes LeonA your quite good at it. Baldwin police are good for busting DUI's and pulling over anyone in the area to see if they are drinking.
cc November 01, 2012 at 01:37 PM
Pitt#983 lol when you see adults selling drugs to teens, and inform the police is where I have a problem. The same guy that was doing the selling was one block over and the officer could of picked him up. I agree that Drunk drivers shouldn't be on the road but we need to get the drug dealers off the streets. If this would of happened in Whitehall, Baldwin Township or Castle Shannon the dealer would of been arrested as they want all drug dealers off the street. Baldwin just worries about DUI's. We had people complain on here when Whitehall police busted a bunch of small time drug dealers saying they should be out busting big time criminals instead of the small time dealers. You need to bust the small time dealers to get to the larger ones, as you will get one of two that will rat out the bigger ones and turn states evidence against them.
John Williams November 04, 2012 at 05:35 PM
I agree. Excellent work.
NE12Ukid November 04, 2012 at 09:48 PM
and cc knows better than the police detectives and special task force officers how to best catch drug dealers. yeah.
NE12Ukid November 04, 2012 at 09:57 PM
EVERYTHING the police do is not printed here.
NE12Ukid November 04, 2012 at 09:58 PM
cc v 9:27 am on Thursday, November 1, 2012 Yes LeonA your quite good at it. Leon isn't the one criticizing the police, the coaches, and everyone else every week on Patch, cc.
cc November 05, 2012 at 02:39 AM
NE12Ukid aka LeonA your so funny with all your made up names commenting on your own post. How many names we up to now 10. bonita got it so right about you along with MattA
cc November 05, 2012 at 02:44 AM
Ne12Ukid, when you have a brother in law a police chief of another Borough you tend to hear a lot about the police around in the South Hills, All Baldwin Police knows how to do is bust DUI's. Baldwin at their finest is busting dui's and not doing much of anything else.
NE12Ukid November 05, 2012 at 03:26 AM
I do have a brother in law on a nearby force, and one with the Att'y General, and both have worked special task forces. You have no clue what all the police force does, nor should you know it all. Some of this is confidential. As to your claim about Brownsville Rd, did you think the police were going to arrest that man on the spot based only on what YOU said you saw? If he did sell drugs, before you called the police, what were they going to do, arrest him for having money in his wallet? Face it, you complain every time these DUI articles appear here, as well as all your complaining elsewhere. You think you know it all. And then there are your conspiracy theories, it's all quite funny, though sad since you are a human and we have some compassion for your troubles.
cc November 05, 2012 at 01:55 PM
leona aka new kid, your the one that is always to critical of everyone and it is so funny how you have to make up names to agree with yourself. We all caught on to you so funny
cc November 05, 2012 at 01:56 PM
no new12ukid aka leona your the one that has no clue what goes on. your best at taking sentences from many articles and trying to make yourself seem so smart but we all know better.
cc November 05, 2012 at 02:01 PM
Like I said before I will pray for you as you need to go get counseling as you have been told off under all of your many names for how critical you are and how you know it all about everything. I just wonder how many of your neighbors run every time they see you outside.
want to hear from others November 05, 2012 at 03:08 PM
new12ukid.....you have cc so correctly portrayed. How much of her day is spent trying to get her thoughts in print. She comments and is the expert on EVERYTHING, from politics, to coaching, why police only arrest drunk drivers and even school lunches. She will probably know why there was the killing in Baldwin. There must not be many positives in her life...and her only response to people who challenge her responses is to make personal attacks. It is getting quite old to read her replies...they are the same complaints and expertee"ism" on everything. Most if not all of us just laugh at her on-going senselessness. CC---stick to trying to figure out where the weekly pictures are from...
PITT#983 November 06, 2012 at 05:47 AM
Hilarious!! Good stuff.
NE12Ukid November 06, 2012 at 12:53 PM
And I have been praying for you, for God's help with your paranoia, your delusions, and your obsessions. You should be thrice blessed, cc! Why are you so hung up on the police, or is it the DUIs that attract your interest? For yet another time, my name is Ned, and you beeyotch, whine, and moan about anything I post, but you have not "told me off" because I don't place any weight on your strange paranoid words and accusations. So sorry to disappoint you, but you still get the prayers. See ya down Caste, "cc". LOL
NE12Ukid November 06, 2012 at 12:57 PM
Watch out, you two, cc's next move will be to try to claim that you both are me, she's claimed that 9 different screennames are all ml, then she said they are me. We're gonna need a bigger table at Thanksgiving to accomodate all these people who cc thinks are one! "want to hear", you stated something that is most likely very true, "There must not be many positives in her life...and her only response to people who challenge her responses is to make personal attacks. It is getting quite old to read her replies...they are the same complaints and expertee"ism" on everything." Diagnosing this sort of thing is not my chosen field, maybe it is yours, but your comment appears to be solid, based on what evidence we have seen here.
NE12Ukid November 06, 2012 at 01:03 PM
Hey, I just thought of something. I get to vote 9 times! Thanks, cc, LOL
NE12Ukid November 18, 2012 at 08:16 PM
I'd like cc to tell us exactly where on Brownsville Rd she witnessed these drug deals, it was not in Baldwin Borough! Here's a map to help you out, cc, hahahaha!!! http://www.city-data.com/city/Baldwin-Pennsylvania.html
