DUI and Criminal Mischief in Baldwin Boro on Sunday

DUI Arrest on Route 51

A police officer stopped a motorist for running a red light at the Route 51-Streets Run Road intersection on the border of Baldwin and boroughs at around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday.

The driver provided the name of "Gerardo Cardenas" to the officer but could not provide other identification, and the officer could not find Cardenas' name on record among valid drivers.

The officer reported smelling alcohol while interacting with Cardenas and put him through breath-analyzer and field-sobriety tests, all of which Cardenas failed.

The officer arrested Cardenas for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and took him to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test. Results of that test are pending.

Cardenas was then brought to the , where a friend came to identify him by showing his passport. Police determined Cardenas' identity at that time but are still charging him with driving without a license in addition to the DUI and red light offense.

Cardenas, who is 24 and lives on 2nd Street in Monongahela, PA, was released to his friend.

Criminal Mischief on Curry Road

A resident of the 5400 block of Curry Road called the Baldwin police at around 9:27 p.m. on Sunday to report finding the home's mailbox damaged. Also, a large concrete block was placed on the home's porch.

Police are investigating.
