Drugs Found at Whitehall Magistrate's Office

Drugs Found in Toilet at Justice Barton's Caste Village Office

Usually, those found with drugs go to district court. This past Tuesday, the drugs were there waiting for them.

A constable working at the  office of Magistrate David J. Barton of District Court 05-2-17 at around noon on Jan. 31 turned over drugs to a officer that the constable had found in the tank of a toilet there that day.

The constable had just requested the officer's assistance to guard a prisoner while the constable checked the district court bathroom for contraband prior to the prisoner being allowed to use it.

The constable reported finding a collection of broken cigarettes and an orange pill later identified as Suboxone—a prescription-only narcotic medication—wrapped in shrink-wrap inside of the tank.

The drugs were later destroyed.

Brennan Plaza Gazebo Damaged

A resident of the 300 block of Southvue Drive contacted police at around 5:04 p.m. on Jan. 31 to report that he had recently observed two juveniles kicking at a gazebo in the .

Police officers went to the plaza and reported finding broken wooden slats on the gazebo. The officers eventually located two children on a path near the Whitehall municipal tennis courts that leads onto Echo Glen Drive and questioned them.

One of the children—a 12-year-old boy—admitted to damaging the gazebo. The other child—a 13-year-old girl—was found not to be responsible for any damage.

The boy was issued a citation for criminal mischief, and his family will have to pay for repairs to the gazebo.

Outstanding Warrant

Whitehall police officers stopped a motorist near the Route 51-Stewart Avenue intersection at around 4:56 p.m. on Feb. 2 for numerous traffic violations.

The officers reported that the motorist—Joseph W. Zalin, 32, of 840 Freeland St. in Pittsburgh's Allentown neighborhood—provided false identification when asked for his driver's license.

When the officers discovered Zalin's true identity, he was found to have an outstanding warrant from Beaver County for a failure to appear offense.

The officers arrested Zalin and turned him over to Beaver County officials.
