Driver Stopped, Asleep in Middle of Lucy Drive

Also, Baldwin police are participating in a program aimed at reducing pollution caused by the disposal of drugs.

DUI Arrest

A Baldwin Borough police officer came across a stopped vehicle in the middle of Lucy Drive near McAnulty Road at around 12:23 a.m. on Wednesday. Its driver was asleep behind the wheel, according to Baldwin's police report of the incident.

The officer smelled alcohol upon approaching the driver—Steven Brnusak, 31, of Millet Lane in Pleasant Hills Borough. Brnusak then failed field-sobriety tests, was arrested and was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test (results pending) before being taken home and released to the custody of his wife.

He is being charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

National Take Back Initiative

Baldwin police are participating in a National Take Back Initiative aimed at reducing pollution caused by the disposal of drugs.

Anyone interested in disposing his or her unwanted or expired medications—just pills, no liquids—should bring them to the police station along Churchview Avenue (part of the borough municipal complex) on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"It used to be we would pour our expired medication down the drain," Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott has said, "but now, we have the concern of what's in the water system."

I kind of wonder if, had the guy realized that he was intoxicated and pulled over to "sleep it off", whether he'd still be charged or if they'd recognize that he was trying to do the more responsible thing. As it is, being in the middle of the main drag, it's more likely that he simply conked out, but it's something to think about.

@sean. The dui law states that if you are physical control of the vehicle, i.e., sitting behind the steering wheel, you can not be intoxicated. Its irrelevant in your scenario. Whether you are driving down the road drunk, or pulled in a parking lot asleep, if you are drunk, you will be arrested for DUI.

Right you are, justice seeker. that driver WAS driving drunk, unless he drove down that street, then stopped his car in the middle of the road sober, then drank to intoxication in the car and fell asleep. yeah, sure. He's lucky no one plowed into his vehicle and injured him, or others.
