Driver Stopped, Asleep in Middle of Becks Run Road

And another incident from north Baldwin in these police stories from the past week.

Driver Asleep on Becks Run Road

A Baldwin Borough police officer found the driver of an SUV stopped in the middle of Becks Run Road and asleep with his foot on the vehicle's brake.

The incident occurred while the SUV was facing west in Baldwin's 600 block of Becks Run at around 2:49 a.m. on Thursday, according to a police report.

The vehicle's engine was running, it was in gear, and its headlights were on. But the driver—Mario Joseph Germany, 24, of Cedricton Street in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood—did not wake up until another police officer arrived at the scene, entered Germany's passenger's-side door, put the vehicle in park and turned off its engine.

Germany had the odor of alcohol coming from him and admitted to recently drinking alcohol, according to the report. The officers put him through field-sobriety tests, which he failed, before arresting him and taking him to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test (results pending).

He was then taken to the Baldwin police station and eventually released to the custody of his wife. He is being charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

DUI Arrest Near East Carson

A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped a vehicle on Mifflin Road in the Hays neighborhood at around 1:33 a.m. on Oct. 16 after observing its driver speeding and swerving on East Carson Street/River Road in north Baldwin, according to a police report.

The police officer reported smelling alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver also admitted to recently drinking alcohol and failed a breath-analyzer test. Police identified him as Shawn Bohling, 31, of New England Road in West Mifflin Borough.

While searching Bohling's vehicle, the officer found a cigarette pack under the driver's seat with marijuana inside of it. Bohling then admitted to recently using the substance, according to the report.

Bohling was put through field-sobriety tests, which he failed, before being arrested and taken to Jefferson Regional for a blood test (results pending).

He was released to the custody of a friend while at the hospital and is being charged with possession of marijuana and suspicion of DUI.
