75-Year-Old Charged with Homicide in Whitehall

Joseph R. Manning, 75, of 1146 Brant Dr. in , is facing a criminal homicide charge after an incident at Manning's home on Saturday.

were called to Manning's residence on Brant Drive at around 3:30 p.m. that day, WPXI has reported. Brant Drive sits just off of Teal Drive near Streets Run Road and the .

That's where officers reportedly discovered an "older man with a knife. They told him to drop the knife, but he refused. An officer shocked him with a Taser, and he was taken to UPMC Mercy for evaluation. When they got into the home, they found the man's wife, Mary Manning(, 71,) dead inside," the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Police called the death "intentional," the paper reported, although further details of the incident were not immediately available. Whitehall police charged Manning with criminal homicide.

At a arraignment hearing on Sunday morning, Manning was denied bail. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail pending a preliminary hearing on April 11 before county Judge Donna Jo McDanielUPDATE: Manning's hearing was postponed to Jan. 25.
