Brentwood Man Tries to Stab Whitehall Cop at Family Video, Police Say

The incident happened on Sunday morning.

A Brentwood Borough man is in the Allegheny County Jail on a felony aggravated assault charge after he tried to stab an off-duty Whitehall Borough police officer at the Route 51 Family Video on Sunday morning.

According to Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko, the store's manager called police at around 11:49 that day when 63-year-old Warren Alan Otto of Victoria Drive began yelling at customers and employees inside of the store. Otto was believed to be intoxicated at the time, Danko said.

When officers arrived at the store, Otto had already been taken into custody by an off-duty Whitehall police officer. The off-duty officer reported that, when he identified himself as a policeman, Otto lunged at him twice with a set of pruning shears, attempting twice to stab him.
