A man accused of stealing $1,200 worth of jewelry from an Upper St. Clair Township home earlier this year will have his theft charge reduced if he makes restitution to the resident.
A Brentwood man accused of stealing $1,200 worth of jewelry from an Upper St. Clair Township home earlier this year will have his theft charge reduced if he makes restitution to the resident.
David M. Christman, 31, was charged with theft after Upper St. Clair police said he stole the jewelry from the Hastings Mill Road home when a friend let him into the house while she was babysitting on Jan. 14.
Police said he sold the jewelry to Jerry’s Route 51 Quick Cash on Jan. 14 and 15 for $900.

The resident said she realized the theft on Jan. 18 and reported it to police after going to the Quick Cash store in Brentwood and seeing her own jewelry there. Investigators initially targeted the babysitter, but eventually were led to Christman. Police said he confessed to the theft at the police station.
During Christman’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Wyda on March 18, investigators agreed to reduce the theft charge to a summary disorderly conduct citation if he can pay back $1,200 to the victim. He has 45 days to make restitution or face the misdemeanor theft charge.
