Baldwin Borough Police Briefs (Oct. 15-23)

Another DUI arrest to report, this one from Glass Run Road.

On Oct. 15 at approximately 2:16 a.m., a Baldwin Borough police officer observed a vehicle following another vehicle too closely on Glass Run Road near Gensler Road. That officer also reported that the trailing vehicle was not staying in its lane.

The officer began following the vehicle in question and reported that it also failed to obey a stop sign at the Glass Run-Walton Road intersection. The officer continued to follow the vehicle as it turned right onto Churchview Avenue, and the officer eventually stopped the vehicle at a Sunoco gas station near the Churchview-Wildwood Avenue intersection.

Upon approaching the driver of the vehicle—James John Tapocik Jr., 23, of 815 Burbridge St. in Port Vue Borough—the officer reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol and seeing vomit on Tapocik’s clothing.

The officer put Tapocik through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests. Tapocik failed each test, the officer reported, and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The officer transported Tapocik to the Baldwin Borough police station before eventually releasing him to the custody of his mother.
