Baldwin Borough Police Briefs (May 16-22)

Police say that a bleeding man lied to them about a carjacking and was drunk driving instead.

officers were dispatched to Streets Run Road near on May 19 at approximately 10:35 p.m. for a one-vehicle accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers, with assistance from the Pleasant Hills Police Department's K-9 unit, found an unoccupied, wrecked vehicle and an injured, bleeding man lying nearby in weeds next to railroad tracks on 's Brentwood Road. 

The man—later identified as resident Jacques Mantel Harden, 33, of 1690 Parkline Drive in the complex—told the officers that his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint in Pittsburgh's South Side area and had later crashed with him inside.

Harden said that his wife was in the vehicle with him when his car was stolen, but when police located his wife, she provided a conflicting report, saying that Harden was driving alone.

Harden's wife's story, as well as conflicting information from Harden himself, led officers to believe that Harden had been lying to them.

The officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from Harden and arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol. Harden refused to be subjected to a blood test at Jefferson Regional Medical Center but was still transported there by police to be treated for injuries related to the accident.

In addition to the DUI charge, police are charging Harden with providing false reports to law enforcement authorities, driving with a suspended license and careless driving.
